Library Centers This Week (while I'm gone)

Hi friends!

This week I get to travel to Houston for our state library conference. I can't wait! Before I left, I had to set up centers that would pretty much run themselves, since I know that my assistant will be super busy while I'm gone.

Here's what we have going on:

Angry Birds bookmarks: I printed out the sign for this station, cut up printer paper into fourths, put out colored pencils, and there we go! The students can draw and color their own bookmarks.

Listening Center: I normally don't repeat this 2 weeks in a row, but it's a center that runs smoothly without me. I have Science Verse by Jon Scieska playing in the CD player (more poetry for April).

Nature Center: My anole lizard arrived from the education service center, and he is a lively fellow to watch. A delightful fifth grader also gifted me with a tadpole that she brought to school in a zip lock bag of water. The tadpole is in a tank to be observed, and I've got a sheet of posterboard with lines drawn on it and instructions to draw what you see or write what you see (like I did with this spider center). It will be fun to see how the drawings and descriptions change as our little tadpole grows. He is only about a half inch long right now! Lizard and frog books are out on the table, too.

Puzzle Center: I have a jigsaw puzzle map of the United States out at the puzzle center.

What's happening in your library this week?

  1. I always love to hear what is happening in your library! I hope the TLA conference was wonderful...our MSLA was in March and is always inspiring!

This week my center has to do with baseball. It was the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park. So baseball math, word searches, etc.

Sadly, my centers are done when I am in another building, so I have to get updates from my paraprofessional who is there to supervise kids getting books!

    Keep those GREAT ideas coming!

    1. Thanks for stopping by and commenting, Ann! I have never even had a single sports center in our library. What a GREAT idea!! I just love collaboration--in person or online. I definitely need to put my thinking cap on and come up with some centers to celebrate our Texas Rangers!

    2. I also love the idea of doing sports-themed centers! I'm sure the kids would love them!
