Book Club Grading Rubric

Do you have book clubs in your library? Do you ever need to take a grade on book club participation? How would you even start to do that?

I think that I'll be starting some library book clubs soon. I'll be helping out our teachers, who need to provide an extra challenge for some of their students who don't quite qualify for gifted and talented services. Since I'll have students for part of the school day, I'll need to be able to give them a grade. I was really happy to find this freebie on Pinterest.

This is a free download from Hilary at Rockin' Teacher Materials. You can print out this rubric and use it to assign grades to your book club participants.

Do any of you have book clubs in your library? I would love to hear what works for you!

  1. We have a book club at my HS - it's been going strong for several years now. Our biggest surprise when we started was that it quickly filled up with boys! Yes... teenage boys!? It was the last thing we expected... and the discussions we have are AWESOME. We get pizza from a local pizza place (they give us a great deal and our Parent Group funds the cost)... at first I thought it was the pizza... but the boys have stayed! They get a ton of input in what the group talks about, input in what we read, help us order new books, do reviews and talk non-stop about what they're reading! So much fun!
